Our Beginning

Travel Money Group is wholly owned by Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd, one of the world’s largest travel businesses. Headquartered in Brisbane, Flight Centre Travel Group's global operations include stores in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, India, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Ireland, Singapore, the UAE and South Africa.

In 2006 Flight Centre Limited purchased Nationwide Currency Services (NCS) which operated seven businesses across  Australia (two in Perth, three in Melbourne, and two in Brisbane). The purpose of the acquisition was to compliment the retail travel business and offer the leisure travel customer an added service.

Our Identity

As the business grew from seven stores into 46 stores in early 2011, it was essential to develop its own strong brand identity to enable it to grow quickly in the market place. Many competitors were similar in look, feel and positioning, so it was critical that Travel Money stood out from the rest. As a result, Travel Money was rebranded Travel Money Oz in April 2011 and developed a uniform black and white brand to differentiate it from our competitors and set it apart from the retail travel agency brands.

To support further expansion into other countries worldwide – the Travel Money Group logo and corporate identity were developed in 2015.

Our Stores

Foreign currency retail stores are often small, cramped and dominated by glass barriers. In 2014 Travel Money Group set out to revolutionise the retail customer experience. The store fit out was redesigned to cater for not only the travel store implant design, but to cater for standalone kiosks in shopping centres, and standalone flagship stores on the shopping high street. This redesign saw Travel Money move away from the “human teller machine” behind the glass towards a store design that encourages communication and connection with our customers. Innovative and transparent digital rate boards and screens clearly and simply communicate exchange rates and campaign messaging.

Travel Money Group has earnt national recognition for these innovations, winning several design and markeing excellence awards for both store designs and digital signage winning awards in the prestigious Sydney Design Awards in both 2015 and 2016, and the Australian and New Zealand POPAI Awards in 2015.

Our Growth

The Travel Money Group brand has now grown both in size and strength. Since 2011 the Australian business has doubled in size, with over 130 Australian stores open in September 2016.

In 2014 Flight Centre NZ's Travel Money joined the business and in 2015 saw a  transformation from 11 non-aligned stores to a united brand of 18 stores as at September 2016, with the goal of being New Zealand’s largest specialist foreign currency retailer by the end of the 16-17 Financial Year.

In 2016-2017, Travel Money Group's business strategy targets further international expansion planned for Canada and UK. 2016 also saw Travel Money Group launch into the Fin Tech market with the innovative Key to the World digital travel wallet.
